Proposal - Hoboken, NJ
Vinny had a vision — he wanted to propose to Allison on her 30th birthday on Pier A in Hoboken, where they walk their dog Baloo every night. It would be the perfect surprise — they’d come home to their Hoboken apartment after celebrating with their friends and unwind with a walk along the pier…she wouldn’t suspect a thing.
I’d been watching the forecast all day, so I knew there was a high chance of rain. Vinny and I decided to make a game time call as to whether he was going to pop the question or wait because of a rain delay. I texted him around 10:30PM asking him what he thought — he said he was still up for it if I was. So, the plan was a go!
It was rainy, windy & chilly. I waited underneath the awning of a nearby cottage on the pier decked out in my rain gear with my camera wrapped in plastic alongside my second shooter Carol. Our faces were lit by the blue light from our phones as we watched Vinny’s “Find My Friends” dot move closer and closer.
They made their way to the pier and walked out to the edge of a grassy, private area. Vinny took Allison’s hands, said a few sweet nothings, and then dropped down and popped the question. Allison was so surprised and shed a few happy tears! :)
As we took some portraits of the newly engaged couple, the rain & wind seemed to fade away as Allison & Vinny’s love filled our little section of Pier A. We were all drenched, but it didn’t matter. This was their moment, and the start of their next chapter together.
Congrats, you two. I’m so happy I could capture this moment for you.
